How flatshare matchmaker scored 5000 new subscribers
Online marketplace Wonego
Wonego, an online flatmate matchin platform, uses a unique matching algorithm to help people find the right flatshare. Launched in London, Wonego aims to build a thriving community – and be the trusted go-to platform for house sharers. To do that, it turned to GetResponse.
“We tested popular email marketing platforms and chose to stick with GetResponse, as it was more user-friendly, had better customer service, and offered more advanced features,” says Stephan Gasteyger, Wonego co-founder.

The main attraction
How did Wonego get such great results? By focusing on the signup ratio, and then the conversion of signups as a percentage of total daily users. Forms and user-friendly list imports made it easy. And to segment its audience and send personalized emails, the team collected contacts’ details such as nationality, address, and date of birth. The result: 5000 new subscribers. And the motivation to score even more!
“We’re now working hard on increasing signups and user engagement,” says Stephan Gasteyger, Wonego co-founder. “We target user growth of at least 20% per month.”
Ready to engage
Wonego primarily uses email to connect with its users. They get a friendly welcome email, and a confirmation message when a match is found. Plus, a list of the latest listings on the site.
“Wonego uses segmentation tailored to users’ needs,” says Zhenya Zaitseva, GetResponse Education Expert. “Their emails include clear yet detailed information about the recommended roommates, pricing and property. And that’s exactly what their customers want.”
The result: an average open rate of 30.68% – and goals to go even higher.
“A good newsletter will get up to a 70% open rate, and we are generally satisfied with anything over 40%,” says Stephan Gasteyger, Wonego co-founder.
Test, tweak, repeat
Wonego is always experimenting and optimizing campaigns. And one of the marketing team’s favorite features is A/B testing, simple to set up in just a few clicks. So at a glance, they can see the most popular subject lines.
An interesting insight they discovered: emails with longer subject lines perform 44% better. Armed with this info, the team can easily test, analyze, and tweak their emails on the spot. Now that’s a smart move!
“It only took us a few days to learn the main features, and it feels very easy and convenient to use!“ says Stephan Gasteyger, Wonego co-founder.
Match made in heaven
“GetResponse has not only been instrumental in helping Wonego get off the ground, but also in building a fast growing and strong community of trustworthy and like-minded home sharers in the London market“ says Stephan Gasteyger, Wonego co-founder.
